e-Commerce Web Site Design Objectives

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

e-Commerce web design is a lot more than just putting your company brochure on the net or adding an internet shopping cart to your existing product catalog. There are some fundamental differences between doing business online and doing business the traditional way. Before you design your business web site, you must know what specific goals you desire to achieve with your business web site.

Business Objectives for Designing an e-Commerce Web Site.

A small business web site can do many things. This can include:

- Generate Leads. Pre-sell your business services and products to generate telephone, e-mail, or online form leads from customers.

- Generate Sales Quotes. Solicit or generate automated quotes that in turn generates a customer sale or lead.

- Generate Advertising Revenue. Display online content and free services with affiliate or ad network advertisements that generates advertising revenue from your merchant partners.

- Provide A StoreFront. Host online catalog that fully automates the customer purchase and communications process.

- Generate Customer Traffic. Generate customer traffic from search engines and business directories to pre-sell your product or service. Traffic is then re-directed to you main web site or product web pages.

Once you decide on your business objectives for your web site, this is only the first step to making your web site a true business tool for increasing sales. Next you need to determine how best to meet your goals based on your budget, and then determine what software and services you will use to design your e-commerce web site. How to Increase Internet Traffic – Content Versus Copy

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Most people that have web sites knows that it is important to have good content on their web site. Good content will increase traffic to your web sites. Search engines like content and will place web pages with good content on the first page of search results. People that visit your web site like content to better inform and entertain themselves. Content is fine if all you are trying to do is get visitors to come to your web site. Content is not necessarily the final solution if your web site is trying to sell something. The problem with content only on your web site is that content such as good articles, blog posting, videos, and so on may not actually lead to a sale.

This is where “copy” comes in. “Copy” is defined as “the words to be printed or spoken in an advertisement.” Copy is a call to action. It may look like content, it may be content, but its entire purpose is to attract and get a web site visitor to do something that will result in a sale. This action could be to fill out a lead form, call you, or make purchase on your web site. Content on the other hand is defined as “the subject matter of a written work, such as a book or magazine.” Content may help to pre-sell your product or service, but its direct purpose is not to sell someone something. Copy is what leads to a sale.

For most businesses that have a web site, you need both content and copy. Content helps to attract and pre-sale visitors and copy is designed to have a web site visitor take action that will lead to a sale. More on Internet Marketing Strategies – Content Versus Copy …

The Most Important Business Directory and It Is Free

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Most businesses now have at least an online business directory listing or web site. For those that have a business directory listing, the question is whether it is doing any good. I would think that the answer is that most online business directory listings are about as effective as a “For Sale” sign in the middle of the Mojave desert. The problem typically with online business directories is that most internet users never visit the business directory web site where your business is listed.

Typical Business Directory Listing – No Traffic, No Sales

A better approach to getting your local business listed online is to register it with the search engines, specifically Google. Google Maps may already have your local business listed, and all you have to do is claim your free business listing. To claim your free Google Maps business directory listing, all you need to do is the following:

1. Sign in to the Google Local Business Center. If you don’t have a Google Account, click Sign up for an account now and follow the instructions.
2. Return to Google Maps by clicking on the icon in the upper corner of the Local Business Center.
3. Search for your listing.
4. Click on the more info link next to your listing. This will expand the information window.
5. Click Edit under the address and phone number.
6. Click Claim your business, and follow the instructions.
