TJ Maxx hacking attack cost £59m

ID thieves made off with 45 million customer records to include credit card information. This security breach is having significant effect on other retailers. For example, thieves made off with $8 million from Wal-Mart in 50 counties in Florida. The cards were linked back to the TJX breach. The TJX breach is so bad that some banking associations are suing TJX for their negligence.

DOJ Submits ID Theft Bill To Congress

Proposed ID theft laws would raise punishment as well as expand to cover businesses for ID theft crimes. Currently, ID theft victims can only be awarded their financial losses in court. Now they would also be able to re-coop their cost to repair damage. Also, ID theft against a business will be considered a crime, not just individual ID theft.
