What Microsoft Fears More than Linux

With the Linux operating system now being shipped on some personal computers (Dell), it will be interesting what happens to Microsoft over the next couple of years. Microsoft’s biggest threat is not Linux, but the whole trend of Open Source Software. Microsoft has started a serious offense on Open Source Software by getting the Intellectual Property (IP) lawyers in the area of patent infringement. Interesting that Microsoft is not started a marketing campaign against Open Source Software and Linux, but has instead elected to go the legal route.

Digg.com posts, “The rhetoric was far stranger than anything leveled at The SCO Group when they started their happy litigation hunt years ago. By leveling an allegation on 235 patents that Linux supposedly infringes upon, Microsoft has apparently engendered a reaction in the free and open source software communities the likes of which I personally have never seen.”
