The cassette tape started the revolution in mobile media and electronics that continues today with CDs, DVDs, and digital content. This all started with the rise of the Walkman that was launched by Sony in 1979. Now in 2007 stores are starting to not carry blank cassettes for sale and electronic makers are no longer making cassette players.
Digg.com posts, “Cassette tapes have been suffering a slow decline over the past 15 years as first compact discs, and more recently music downloading, took hold. But it is estimated that there are still as many as 500 million tapes in circulation, languishing at the back of bookshelves, or in the side doors of cars.”
