Who is going to solve the spam problem? I am surprised how well spam filters work, but still the spam gets through. The latest spam techniques include:
- sending image spam where the advertisement is in an image format with little to no text
- “pump and dump” stock spam – people do not even have to click to benefit the spammer – just a few people need to buy a penny stock to raise the stock price
- word salad – this spam is where the spammer uses headlines mixed in with the advertisement to get past spam filters
- and the worst – “zombie spam computers’ – this is where spammers hack other people’s computers, install a spam application for the zombie computer to send out spam for the spammer
Digg.com posts, “Just last December, the Federal Trade Commission published an optimistic state-of-spam report, citing research indicating spam had leveled off or even dropped during the previous year. it now appears spammers had simply gone back to the drawing board. There’s more spam now than ever before.”
