Manufacturing has used proprietary, closed loop RFID applications for years to usually interface with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller). Supply chain RFID typically interfaces with COTS IT infrastructure. New manufacturing RFID solutions are expected to interface more with open IT networks in the future to improve global integration and ROI.
