The launch of the iPhone may be a watershed moment where all the benefits of the internet can be accessed and enjoyed on a mobile device. The Job’s iPhone, just like the Mac in the mid-80s is an easy-to-use device making the latest technology fun.
I agree with a lot of what the author, Alan Moore, says in his rather long posting “Entering iPhone Era: Marking Time in Mobile”. For most people an iPhone device may be the only internet-access device they need. For people that just use internet content, use email, and text messaging, the iPhone is all you need.
Now if you are a content provider who does a lot of blogging or who is a web publisher, I still think a sub-notebook computer with an adequate keyboard and screen is the way to go. I use a Averatec with a 10 inch screen. I’m very happy with it except it is a bit cumbersome to make VoIP calls. For VoIP calls you need to be at a Wi-Fi hotspot and hook at VoIP phone into the computer to make a call. I would assume that there will be sub-notebook computer on the market soon that will provide easy to use voice communications at a reasonable price.
