Western Growers association is recommending to their 3,000 growers to start using payroll debit cards instead of issuing paychecks. Payroll debit cards benefit the employer with lower administrative costs, and employees benefit from avoiding check cashing fees as well as having their own Visa debit card.
This is another example where paychecks will soon be obsolete. Even small employers can use prepaid payroll debit cards to pay their employees instead of using checks.
Prepaid debit cards are a great solution for most employers, especially in the service industries where many people do not have bank accounts. The prepaid debit card acts much like a regular bank debit card except there is no checking account associated with the debit card.
