The Mobile Internet: Are We There Yet?
I’m not sure cell phones as we know them today are going to be the preferred device for mobile internet in the future. I may not be the best qualified to have an opinion as I prefer to use a 10″ inch notebook for my mobile computing.
Digg: “Basic components, such as speedy wireless networks and Web page formats for the small screen, are on their way.”
I may be in the minority, but I see a small notebook as a better alternative for mobile internet than a cell phone. I use to have a regular laptop, a PDA, and a digital music player. Back in March 2006 I went with a 10 inch Averatec notebook and got rid of my laptop, PDA, and digital music player. Additionally, I started using Skype with a headset on the 10″ inch laptop. My kids use Skype with a regular handset. To me the 10 inch laptop will be complete as a mobile internet device when I can justify the expense of a Nationwide Wi-Fi service. I’m seeing prices for these services coming down to under $50 a month.
Besides functionality, a 10 inch notebook is smaller than a hardcover book. It can fit into most lady’s handbags and it has a 4-hour battery life. What else do you need?
