The 1:10:89 rule for social networks. 1 percent submit content, 10 percent vote on the content, and 89 percent just read the content.
Digg.com, “This principle leads us to The 1% rule for social media, which says that for any group of 100 people, there will be 1 person that actually creates content (i.e. by submitting stories), 10 people that interact with the content (i.e. by voting and commenting on the stories), and 89 that just view the content. This is also called the 1:10:89 Rule.”
The 1:10:89 social network rule is interesting concept when you compare it to political campaigns. Here the person who creates the content or idea is the candidate. The 1 percent that is promoting an idea. The other 99 percent have the right to vote or comment on the content, but only 10 percent actually do. These 10 percent voters are in many ways influencing the future content that will be produced. If they vote for content or make comments, it is likely that the 1 percent content makers will make more of the same content. Interesting.
