It is a lot more convenient for both Government and child support recipients to use debit cards for child support payments. More state Government agencies are doing this. The Government saves on mailing and administrative fees. Child support recipients do not need to drive to bank, pay check-cashing fees, or carry large amounts of cash.
I would think that Government and corporate-issued checks will soon be a thing of the past. For individual recipients prepaid debit cards with either the Mastercard or Visa logo is the clear winner. The only downside is that there are a few debit card issuers that charge excessive fees and debit card recipients need training so that they do not overdraw their account.
