Online land scams to buy land in Arizona, West Texas, and Florida are appearing more and more on the internet.
Digg.com post, “An elderly woman from the East Coast roams the Arizona desert in search of her land. She’s looking for a tidy lot in a subdivision and instead finds an arid wasteland in the middle of nowhere. She gets lost, runs out of gas and water and has to be rescued by a rancher.”
In most cases there is nothing illegal about selling worthless land to someone who’ is willing to pay for it. Some things that make the land deal not a good deal is paying ten times what it is worth. Many land scams sell land that have no road access, no sewer, or electricity.
Some county Governments have put in place laws to prevent scammers. These laws include registering if you are selling over a certain amount of land tracts. Requiring land owners to sell land only if it has road and sewer access. Still many land scams go through on eBay and other legitimate sites because buyers are not doing their due diligence. Buyer beware.
