Microwave Myths Exposed
Interesting facts about microwaves.
Microwave History Fact. A scientist was conducting radar research with a magnetron tube. At some point he got physically close to the experiment and he noticed the chocolate bar in his pocket had started to melt. The microwave was born.
Heating From The Inside Out. Not true. The microwave heats the food from just under the food surface and then spreads outward and inward.
Exploding Water. I had never heard about this, but I see this effect happen when I make instant coffee. Sometimes when I microwave a cup of water and then put instant coffee in the heated water, the coffee water will bubble up out of the cup. What is going on here is that the actual microwave heat cannot cause water to boil unless there is some imperfection in the container. So it looks like when I put the coffee particles in the heated water of a smooth coffee cup, this causes the water to boil. There are reported cases of the water shooting up ten feet in the air.
