Marketing Reality Check: Blogs, Pods, RSS

Digg.com posting: “The Reach Most Marketers Crave Still Comes From TV, Print and Internet Ads. No surprise there. The real surprise is the conclusion that some tech savvy twenty-somethings actually prefer print and TV to RSS, podcast and online video.”

The statistics are surprising on how internet media is influencing people. Directly, internet media has still not penetrated the great majority of peoples lives. Only 22% of Americans read blogs. Only 5% of Americans know what RSS is. Only 8% of the public listens to Podcasts.

What I found interesting was that indirectly the internet is having a major effect on people’s lives. The study found that when conversations came up about a certain brand of product, the internet tied with TV as the source reference for the conversation. This shows that the influencers are using the internet. This also shows to me that internet media will continue to grow. I thought the internet was already big, but it is just going to get bigger to become a major influence in everyone’s lives.
