Information shifting looks like a new trend where information that you normally get on one device you now get on another device. There are now several applications where information shifting is happening with caller ID.
Digg.com posts, “Applications that put caller-ID information on other devices are popping up in more places. Incoming call readouts are now available not just on phones and TVs, but on screens of shower radios, rear view mirrors and *****”
At first glance this may not be useful, but I can see it being a great safety feature for cars where you can look who is calling by looking at the caller ID in your rear view mirror to see who is calling instead of taking your eyes off the road to look at your phone.
The technology to support more applications of information shifting is starting to become available with new display technology that you can put on walls or even fold up like a map. Just off the top of my head possible applications could be displaying your recipe book and diet information on a screen on your refrigerator, do comparison shopping on your cell phone while in a retail store, and so on.
