The majority of people would like to have their own small business. The internet is a great resource for getting your small business started, but beware.
A common scam is the lure of a free web store to sell an incredible amount of products and make boocoo bucks. A free web store offer is not necessarily a scam. It is a scam when the free web site offer goes on to lead you to believe you will make boocoo money by just having this web site and kicking back.
The problem with free web sites is they are duplicated for thousands of other people that sign up for the free web site offer. Search engines like Yahoo!, Google, MSN, and ask.com do not like duplicate content or duplicate web pages. The bottomline is that you will never get organic web traffic to your duplicate web store. At the same time, a free web store can be a good deal if it sells discounted products and you have a way to drive “real” traffic to the free web store. I do this with several free telecommunications web stores that I am affiliated with.
Here are some ways you can drive traffic to your free web stores.
1. Pay-For-Click. I found this does not work well for free web store products because the product keywords are very competitive. There are many online retailers that can pay more for pay-for-click keywords because they have direct relations with the product vendors.
2. Content Rich Web Site. A content-rich web site will be picked up by search engines, which in turn can then direct traffic to the free web store. Additionally, a content-rich web site coupled with a pay-for-click campaign, can be very profitable. A content-rich web site pre-sells the product by providing unique product information such as review, spelling out advantages of the product, etc.
3. Off-Site Marketing. If you have a free web site that offers such things as telecommunications or financial products, you can leverage the web site to complement your direct marketing campaigns in your local community. This could be something as simple as putting the web site on your business card to using the free web store as your back-room office to complete the sale online.
