Free Stuff Scams On Peer-To-Peer Networks

If you use peer-to-peer networks, beware! Most stuff on peer-to-peer networks such as Gnutella, Limewire and Bearshare is free, but these networks are full of danger. Many of the audio and video files that you download are full of spyware, adware, or even viruses.

Another scam people are seeing on peer-to-peer networks is the old “bait and switch” shopping club scam. A frequent scammer on the peer-to-peer networks is efreeclub.com. This site is heavily advertised as part of free downloads of audio files. efreeclub.com offers a lot of free stuff if you join their club, but they appear to not deliver on their promises. It has had many unsatisfactory reports to the Better Business Bureau. See Spam Kings posting: P2P spam scam for more details.

Some may ask why doesn’t law enforcement do more to stop spam, adware, viruses, phishers, and spyware on peer-to-peer networks. I think the main reason is most peer-to-peer network file downloads are illegal to start with. If you are downloading illegal music from the internet, why should law enforcement protect you from scammers?
