It is amazing how much you can leave yourself vulnerable to hackers and identity thieves at hotspots at airports or coffee shops.

All of these tips are very useful. I’m going to have to look at how my laptop is configured. A lot of times, I’m just happy to find a free hotspot when I’m traveling. Hotspot tips include subscribe to a VPN service, don’t access a hotspot in “ad hoc” network mode, make sure it is a legitimate hotspot (yes people are setting up rogue hotspots just to hack you), and watch out for laptop thieves.
