The Death To Mass Marketing, Long-Live Wikification
FusionBrand has a good posting on the death of mass marketing and the rise of Wikification. My understanding of Wikification is that it is the consumer defining the brand versus the company attempting to position their brand by mass marketing. Wikification comes from the word Wiki. A Wiki is basically an interactive web site where multiple people can post news and information on a subject. See our postings on Hurricane Ivan Wiki and the Tsunami Wiki
For small businesses this is an important online marketing trend that is creating major changes in the way businesses market. Large businesses can no longer bully themselves into the top position in their market thanks to the internet. If they start to provide poor service or their products are defective, this immediately becomes know in the online community being posted in search engine results, blogs, Wikis, and web sites. See our posting on Our Digital Reputation and how this Wikification effect is happening to both individuals and businesses. See FusionBrand’s post: The Death of “Positioning” & The Birth of Brand Wikification for more information on the death of mass marketing and the rise of Wikification.
