New Music Technologies Catching On Slowly

A new report from IDC finds that consumers are slow to adopt new music technologies. Most people (53 percent) own a portable CD player, but very few people own a MP3 player or a satellite radio. Only 6 percent of the people surveyed reported they owned a digital music device such as Apple’s iPod. For satellite radio only 6 percent of the survey respondents owned a satellite radio receiver. Another music technology that I wrote about last week, Music Subscriptions and Portable Digital Players the survey reported that only 4 percent said they used a music subscription service. See E-Commerce News postings: Report: Consumers Clinging to Older Music Technologies for more details on IDC’s music technologies survey.
