Music Subscriptions and Portable Digital Players

I’m traveling a lot this month and decided I wanted to get a portable music player like the iPod shuffle portable music player. I like the Shuffle and the price at under $100. The only problem I found was that when selecting a portal music player you need to look at what music service you will use to fill up your portable music player.

I decided I wanted to use a music subscription service because I wanted to immediately listen to hundreds of songs, but not buy them at around a dollar a song. This ruled out Apple’s iTunes service that works with their iPod as they do not have a music subscription service as of yet. I ended up comparing Rhapsody To Go and Napster To Go service. They are much the same service with subscriptions under $15 a month, free trial, and over 1 million songs. I ended up picking Rhapsody To Go only because they had a little bit more music selection with the music artists that interest me. In many ways Napster has better software in terms of being easy to install and sync with portable music players.

The downside to music subscriptions is that few portable music players support music subscription services. I did have a couple of portable music players to compare, and I decided to go with the Creative Zen Micro. I mainly picked it for price (under $200). The Creative Zen Micro is a great portable music player with a 5GB hard drive. I’m now busy building play lists consisting of hundreds of songs.
