Grad Project - Steal Ids Of Everyone In Baltimore
A Johns Hopkins professor initiate a grad project where his graduate students were given the task to “steal” as much personal data as they could about the citizens of Baltimore. They were not exactly stealing peoples identities because they were required to obtain the personal data legally. They also were limited to $50 dollars in how much personal data that they could buy. Not surprisingly the grad students were able to obtain millions of personal records about the citizens of Baltimore.
There was some good news about the ID theft project in that the grad students did not obtain that many social security numbers. The following posting, Techdirt:Here’s $50; Steal The Identity Of Everyone In Baltimore provides more details about the ID theft project and also offers some solutions on how we can “manage” our digital identity in the future.
