FCC Likely To Require VoIP 911 Service Soon

Broadband phone VoIP service is the number one alternative for residential phone service. Many plans start at under $10 and offer local and long distance service for under $20 with no taxes. One shortcoming of broadband phone service is that many VoIP providers do not offer 911 service with their VoIP service. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is now looking at making 911 service a requirement for all VoIP providers. This issue became a high priority after a home invasion incident where the victims could not access 911 with their broadband phone service. See posting Wired News: VOIP in Public-Safety Showdown
