Banks Start ID Theft Assistance Center To Help ID Theft Victims

Here is some good news for victims of identity theft. A large group of financial institutions have just completed a pilot project that helps ID theft victims restore their credit in a matter of weeks with minimum hassle. Instead of the ID theft victim having to go to each creditor, the ID Theft Assistance Center monitors your credit and contacts your creditors. During the pilot project they helped restore the identities of 700 people.

The pilot project was so successful the banks are making the Identity Theft Assistance Center permanent. Their goal in this next phase is to reduce the time it takes to restore someone’s credit from weeks to just days. The bad news is you cannot call the center directly. You have to first inform your bank and then they will refer you to the ID Theft Assistance Center. The good news is it is free.
